January/February 2011 Featured How-to by Shannon Bielke

Materials:
• Stampbord™ - 2 - 5x7 & 2 - 3.5x5
• Stampbord™ Scratch Knife
• Tsukineko® StazOn
• Tim Holtz® Distress Ink Reinkers
• Hero Arts® Stamps
• Hampton Art Stamps
• Limited Edition Stamps
• Wordsworth Stamps
• Catslife Press Stamps
• Stampers Anonymous
• Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists
• Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze
• Velum
• Crop-A-Dile™ or drill
• Paint Brushes
• Dark Blue Marker
• Misc. metal embellishments
• Pencil

1.  Position the Stampbord pieces as shown above. Sketch the word FAMILY, vertically in block, letters across the whole piece with a pencil.

2.  Place a sheet of velum over the piece and trace the letters and their placement. Carefully cut out each letter.

3.  Using the velum letters to mask each letter, and using only one color of StazOn, carefully stamp a variety of scripts, phrases, and lettering to create the background behind the word FAMILY you have drawn out.

4.  Paint a different color of Distress Ink on each letter. Allow to dry.

5.  Using the negative space of the mask, a new stamp (swirls), and the same StazOn color used in the background, stamp each letter. Allow to dry.

6.   Using the Scratch Knife, scratch highlights into the piece to emphasize different parts of the piece.

7.  Coat each letter with a topcoat of Clear Glitter Glaze. Then, outline each letter with a dark blue marker.

8.  Connect the separate pieces of Stampbord with metal embellishments such as hinges, handles, brads, and chains. Mark placement and use small Crop-A-Dile setting, or use a drill, to set hinges, handles, and hangers.

9.   Attach all metal pieces, and any other pieces to finish the look.

10.  Now your piece is ready to hang in your favorite room of the house!
